* Updated AGA monitor 31kHz hack *
* *
******************************************************************************************
What you get: Multiscan 704x496 31.3kHz/60Hz
DBLPAL 360x248 31.3KHz/60Hz
DBLNTSC 360x248 31.3kHz/60Hz
Limitations: (1) Some programs (rare) will show a messed up screen when using
DBLNTSC. For those programs you can use the DBLPAL driver.
The BootControl program forces the usage of DBLNTSC in some
conditions.
(2) The mouse pointer still has the dissapearing after x>660
bug. This is due to the fact that the monitor driver code
really needs to be rewritten to produce the proper Copper
lists.
(3) Some programs may need to run at 30kHz to avoid color
problems with the DBLNTSC driver (rare). You can use MonEd
to temporarily do this when required.
Advantages: (1) Better and larger display when using VGA monitors on an AGA
Amiga. the Multiscan hack may also work with ECS.
Notes: You can tweak the settings to get 704x500 31.5kHz/60Hz with MonEd.
However, my monitor looks brighter at 31.3kHz.
Files that are included:
overscan.prefs
Multiscan.info
DBLNTSC.info
DBLPAL.info
MonEd
MonEd.readme
BootControl
BotControl.doc
ScanHack.txt
PromoteView
All of these files are contained in ScanHack.lha.
How to install:
(1) Make a backup of your original overscan.prefs file.
(2) Make backups of your Multiscan.info, DBLNTSC.info, and
DBLPAL.info files.
(3) Copy overscan.prefs to ENV:Sys and ENVARC:Sys.
Cancel the Intuition requester that appears.
(4) Copy Multiscan.info, DBLNTSC.info, and DBLPAL.info
to Devs:Monitors.
(5) Copy MonEd to C: if you like.
(6) Copy Bootcontrol to C: if you like. Bootcontrol can be used
to force programs to use DBLNTSC. Put the following line
in your S:startup-sequence:
C:BootControl MODE=VGA INSTALL BOOT GFX=BEST LOADVGA PATCHALERT QUIET READICON >NIL:
(7) Copy PromoteView to C: if you like. This program can be used
to force programs that use a 15kHz View to use a different
monitor driver. For instance you can type:
PromoteView a9004
Now all 15kHz Views will use DBLPAL. PromoteView wil then
wait for you to press control-c to cancel the hack.
Unfortunately, this may temporarily undo the overscan.prefs
hack. But for some programs, like the one used to view
Eric Schwartz animations, it's the only thing that works.
(8) Now you should re-boot your system. The new settings should
take effect.
